Games, movies: news, previews, and reviews.

Stop with the video game movies…Please?

If you are going to make a video game movie, please make it right! Video games enable us to enter into another realm where we become whoever we want to be. Want to be gun wielding super soldier you can, want to hi-jack cars and annoy cops, you can certainly do that as well. Sometimes people try to take a video game and try to mold it into a feature length film, which some times does well and others…crappy.

A Halo movie was in the talks ages ago and that project was to be headed up by Peter Jackson (LOTR franchise), but it just never came off the ground. Halo is a major franchise and Peter Jackson is a pretty well known director, heck he did receive a lot of Oscar nods for his films. Why wouldn’t a popular franchise like this along with a great director not get a movie off the ground? I’m pretty sure it is because at the back of their minds they know that this movie might quite possibly fail if done incorrectly, but isn’t that already the case now with other films? Perhaps the production companies are afraid of a huge backlash from audiences and diehard fans?

How many video game movie incarnations are out there? Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Ecks vs Sever, Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil…there are quite a few that are not totally bad such as the FIRST Mortal Kombat movie, the Tomb Raider series and the Resident Evil series. However all the rest have been pretty crappy, for example Street Fighter was bad, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li was really bad. One would think that after the first attempt they wouldn’t try again at it.

I just hope that before (or if) they do make a Halo movie or any other video game movie they take the time and care to make it right, if not then please don’t!
